Overview
The Sanjay Mortimer RepRap Festival (SMRRF) is one of the UK’s most unique technology and maker-focused events, bringing together the global 3D printing and engineering community under one roof. Built around innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity, the event celebrates grassroots engineering culture while raising awareness and support for neurodivergent young people in STEM through the Sanjay Mortimer Foundation.
Evolution Media joined SMRRF 2026 as the official media partner, delivering full-scale event coverage across the weekend. Our role extended far beyond simply documenting the event. We were tasked with creating a long-term content library that could support future fundraising, exhibitor outreach, online engagement, and year-round promotion of both the festival and the foundation’s mission.
Across two packed event days, we captured everything from keynote speakers and live demonstrations to exhibitor interviews, beneficiary stories, and high-energy community moments that showcased the true atmosphere of the event.

The Challenge

SMRRF is unlike a traditional conference or exhibition. The event combines hobbyist makers, international engineering brands, industry professionals, students, creators, educators, and charity initiatives all within one fast-moving environment.
The scale and pace of the event created several production challenges. Multiple activations were happening simultaneously across a large venue, with keynote talks, exhibitor demonstrations, interviews, networking, and stage sessions all taking place throughout the day.
Alongside capturing the atmosphere of the event itself, the content also needed to serve several long-term purposes:

Wes led overall event coverage, interviews, and creative direction, while second shooter Llew focused heavily on stage coverage and speaker sessions to ensure every keynote and presentation was captured cleanly for future online access.
Our coverage strategy split the weekend into two clear objectives:

Our creative direction centred around authenticity, innovation, and human connection.
Rather than presenting SMRRF as a traditional trade event, we wanted the content to reflect the unique culture surrounding the maker and engineering community. The visuals focused heavily on genuine interactions, hands-on creativity, and the passion shared between exhibitors, hobbyists, and students alike.
A major part of the storytelling also focused on the mission behind the Sanjay Mortimer Foundation. Through beneficiary interviews and community testimonials, we aimed to show the real-world impact the foundation has on neurodivergent young people pursuing careers and opportunities within STEM.
